Have you read The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali?
I’m thinking of buying it any comments on the book?
I’ve read a couple of versions and would recommend these lectures if you have the time and want to get an in depth description:

Some of the translations on the web are pretty good. It’s a relatively short text if you don’t mind reading on screen.
