What should I do I do pilates and yoga?

In the practice of a chiropractor, I see many patients who regularly attend yoga classes or pilates. Both groups of patients seem to derive benefit from their classes however, the philosophy of both is very different. One seems to have a physical basis for teaching, while the other seems to have a spiritual base as its source.

Let us have a look at these two great activities and see what we can learn.
Pilates is a system fitness developed in the 20th century by Joseph Pilates in Germany.] Today there are many millions of practitioners.

Pilates called his method Contrology (control and Greek-logia), because he believed his method uses the mind to control muscles. The program focuses on the core muscles that help maintain postural the body balanced and are essential to providing support to the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aims to strengthen the deep torso muscles.

Essentially it is a style that involves the formation of muscles to improve posture and alignment. By focusing on its core strength, improve the small muscles in the body so that is best able to support larger the ligaments, tendons and joints. When our muscles are weak they make allowances for others to lead to instability and injury.

Take your back, for example, if your posture is bad, your lower back and hips then be adjusted accordingly which means they are essentially irrelevant. Pilates encourages you to think about how to perform everyday movements. It increases your body awareness which in turn improves the overall agility, flexibility and strength. It helps ensure that your body is working at its optimal level all the time

There are three classes of pilates, the most popular is the exercise mat, where the Most time is spent on the floor using gravity and body weight for resistance. There is also a pilates class, incorporating weights and one using a special equipment. Joseph Pilates developed these machines that allow people to do the pilates moves with a pulley system for resistance. Most places without But only offer training mat.

Now let's look at yoga. Yoga has been defined as follows: —

* Discipline for Hindu to the formation of the consciousness of a state of spiritual insight and tranquility that is achieved through three …

* A system of exercises practiced in the context of the Hindu discipline to promote control of the body and mind. Many people think that yoga is stretching. But while stretching is involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body by developing strength and flexibility. This is done by conducting attitudes or postures, each with characteristics physical benefits.

The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement (Vinyasa-style yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect alignment of the pose. Attitudes are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained.

Yoga is a body of ancient India, dating from the expertise of more than 5000 years ago. The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite or integrate." Yoga is, therefore, on the marriage of a person's own conscience and the universal consciousness.

Ancient Yogis had a belief that that man is in harmony with itself and its environment has to integrate the body, mind, and spirit. In these three are integrated, emotion, action, and intelligence should be in balance. The Yogis formulated a way to achieve and maintain this balance and is done through exercise, breathing and meditation – the three main Yoga structures.

In Yoga, the body is treated with care and respect as is the main instrument of man's work and growth. Yoga exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the system glandular body, which in general can lead to better health.

Breathing techniques were developed based on the concept that breath is the source of life. In yoga, students gain breathing control as they slowly increase their breathing. By focusing on your breathing, to prepare their minds for the next step – Meditation.

There is a general misconception that in meditation, your mind has to go blank. There need be. In meditation, students that the activities of the mind in the approach that results in a "quiet mind". By designing physical poses and breathing techniques to develop awareness of our body, Yoga helps us focus and relieves us of our daily stress.

Now that we've had a brief look at the Pilates and yoga, we can see that the philosophy and teachings of these overlaps is consistent with the philosophy of chiropractic which states that there are three main causes of subluxation in the body.

It is nerve interference, outside the influence of toxic substances and stress. Ask your chiropractor to advise you about which of the two activities are best suited to your needs!
